#36 Wicker Park

Cold, windy, overcast - but I got this walk in before it started snowing.  Another historic neighborhood.  Not a lot of highlights.

#38 Ukranian Village

Wanted to get another quick walk in before the weather turned back to winter.  This was a short one.  I think that the Ukranian neighborhood is probably smaller than it was in 1912.  A couple of big churches.  Only a handful of shops with Ukranian language on the windows.

#26 Baha'i Temple

The only Baha'i Temple in North America is just up the lake front in Wilmette, Illinois.  I used to drive by it everyday on my way to work.  Today was my first visit.  Fascinating story.  Nice day to visit.

What do you do on a sunny 56 degree day in February?  Go for a walk of course. The Northwestern campus is a bastion of academia with ivy covered 19th century gothic buildings.  There are also modern facilities that house performance spaces and science labs.  Attractive campus right on the lake front.  Many people out on such an unseasonably warm day.

#44 Prairie Avenue Historic District

Saturday, February 22, 2020

This is a totally new neighborhood for me.  Ironic, because it is one of the oldest in all of the city of Chicago.  This is where all of the titans of industry lived in the 19th century.  It survived the fire of 1871 and still has some old mansions.

A beautiful sunny day in the mid-forties.  Unseasonably mild for February.  I decided to check out Chinatown.  There have been reports of people avoiding Chinatown as a result of the Corona Virus outbreak in China.  It doesn't make any sense.  Streets were pretty empty and some businesses were closed.  A bit nostalgic for me since I had lived in Beijing for three years.  There's a large branch of the Chicago Public Library at the entrance to Wentworth Avenue.
