#16 Gold Coast

November 24, 2019

Gold Coast.  Nice, sunny late November day.  I've driven past the Surgical Science Museum many times and have always been curious.  It was even open today, but I couldn't get up the nerve to go in.  Lots of large mansions on this walk.

#14 River North Gallery District

November 8, 2019

This is a short walk.  I did it on a sunny, cold day.  Winter is coming early to Chicago this year.  I didn't try very hard to hunt down every address on the card.  Many of these galleries do not stick around for 10 years.  They are also more for people looking to buy pieces.  These are not museums.  So I felt funny about going into any of them.  Some are by appointment only anyhow. Vibrant neighborhood though.

Chicago has renovated and built a pedestrian walk on the south bank of the river that extends from Wolf Point to the Lake.  Restaurants, outdoor park areas and boat rentals can be found all along the new Chicago Riverwalk.  I decided to blaze a new trail instead of following the card.  I started on the south bank at Wolf Point and walked east.  I crossed the river on Michigan Avenue and continued east and ended the walk as the card described.  This gave me unobstructed views of the buildings on the north bank.  Of  course, most restaurants and amenities (including the fountain) were closed because it's November and below freezing.  But at least is was sunny.

Continuing on from walk #14 this one includes more shops and an iconic Chicago neighborhood.  I didn't go in any shops because I wasn't shopping.

#27 Andersonville

November 7, 2019

Little Sweden?  Why not.  I love this neighborhood.  I popped into a local hardware store and bought a light socket replacement for $2.  Interestingly, I had located the part on Amazon earlier, but it was going to cost 6 dollars to ship it and was going to take a week.  Plus, it was only offered in a package of 2 for $5.98.  Delivery would have been free if I was a prime member.  Marcey is a prime member, but I didn't have her password. I know that actually going to a store can be inconvenient, but you can't beat family owned neighborhood stores.

I also picked up a couple of pairs of winter boots from a local shoe store.  A pair of Clarke's and a pair of Rockport on sale.  Helpful salesperson.  A much better experience than a mall.

Sadly, Ann Sathers is no longer an anchor in this neighborhood.  Thankfully, there are still 3 other locations.
